Microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliating treatment that uses a combination of fine abrasive tips and vacuum suction to remove dead skin cells. It is a suitable treatment for improving congested or acne prone skin, mild pigmentation, fine lines and post acne scarring.
The level of the microdermabrasion treatment can be adjusted according to skin type and client preference.
Day 1-2 Moderate to severe redness, swelling & skin sensitivity depending on the patient. Oozing and weeping of the skin can occur immediately after the treatment.
Day 2-3 Dryness and flaking of the skin depending on the patient.
Avoid unprotected UV/sun exposure and sunburn for a minimum of 4 weeks prior to treatment. It is recommended you avoid unprotected UV exposure throughout the duration of your treatments.
Wear sunscreen, a minimum of SPF30+ (UVA/UVB) daily.
Some exfoliating skincare products can help prepare your skin before the treatment and enhance results. Confirm which products are recommended by your dermal therapist prior to treatment.
Discontinue using prescription Vitamin A or any over the counter high strength retinol products 5 days before your treatment unless advised otherwise. Some of the retinol products include Retrieve ®, Retin A ®, Steva A ®.
If you have a history of herpes/cold sores, you may wish to take antiviral medication prior to treatment to prevent an onset.
Areas treated with wrinkle relaxer or dermal filler must be completely healed before any skin treatment can be performed. This includes redness, swelling, bruising or discomfort.
Avoid waxing the proposed treatment area prior to treatment.
Do not use any skincare products with active ingredients or that are heavily perfumed post treatment. These include retinol, glycolic acids or vitamin C. Use products recommended by your dermal therapist during the healing phase
Wear sunscreen, a minimum of SPF30+ (UVA/UVB) daily and avoid any unprotected UV/sun exposure.
Apply a cool compress to ease erythema (redness) and discomfort.
Avoid heat-inducing activities for 24-48 hours.
Avoid chlorinated pool water for 24-48 hours.
Do not pick or pull at any areas of crusting or flaking as this may increase your chances of infection and can result in scarring.
No waxing to the proposed treatment area or anything that may cause trauma to the skin during the healing phase.
